Winter Plow Operator

Harriston and Arthur, ON

The Murray Group has immediate openings for Full-Time Seasonal Drivers for Winter Snow Removal. The winter road season runs yearly from the middle of October until the middle of April or May. Following the winter season, we may have full-time driving opportunities available in our other operations. 

Responsibilities:

  • Operation of spreader, plow wing or combo unit in a safe and efficient manner to carry out the clearing of local roads as per the contract requirements

  • Maintaining accurate documentation including but not limited to fuel reports, safety reports and hours of service

  • To maintain/clean equipment as required and conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs as required

  • Housekeeping duties within the shop, lunchroom, washroom, common areas and exterior of yard

  • Operate specialized equipment, including winter equipment, as trained and able, and as required

  • Ability to understand performance requirements of the contract, route map and sand/salt application rate etc.

  • Perform other duties as required and as assigned including field maintenance operation

 

Requirements:

  • Mechanically inclined

  • AZ or DZ license with a clean drivers abstract and ability to drive manual transmission

  • Previous experience in winter works operations an asset

  • Flexible with work hours and long shifts

  • Appreciation for a high level of efficient and quality work

  • Ability to communicate effectively with solid writing skills

  • Ability to work shift work and be on call on a regular basis

  • Able to work in all types of weather and temperatures

  • Ability to operate winter combination units

Asphalt Crew Team Members

Mount Forest, ON

Requirements:

  • Experience with grading, road work, and asphalt paving and/or general construction

  • Experience with operation of skid steers, rollers and compaction equipment

  • Shovel, rake and level asphalt to grade

  • Proficiency in working with hand tools, and willing to work with demolition equipment and/or compressor tools

  • Adjust manholes and other fixtures when required

  • Must possess a valid unrestricted driver's license and have a good driving history (CVOR)

  • Ability to work days/nights/weekends or out of town if necessary

  • Must have reliable transportation

AZ Driver

Mount Forest, ON

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Company Safety policy and procedures

  • Ensure timely deliveries to paving crews

  • Report to various job sites as requested

  • Assist asphalt crews and labour as required

  • Complete CVOR related paperwork / Log Book, Circle Check, Etc.

  • Work on various job sites across Wellington, Grey, Bruce, Perth and Dufferin Counties

 

Requirements:         

  • AZ License – asphalt or gravel experience an asset

  • Must be highly productive, punctual, and reliable

  • Able to work independently with little supervision

  • Experience operating various types of trucks including triaxles, tag-along trailers and live bottom tractor trailers

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, occasional Saturdays

  • Must have own transportation

  • Able to safely operate various types of paving equipment, an asset

  • Able to load and off-load heavy equipment, an asset

  • Ability to help paving crews with labour when required

  • Willing to work in weather conditions that may be adverse (hot/cold/rain)

Estimator/Project Manager

Moorefield, ON

Responsibilities:

  • Accurate and timely interpretation of project drawings, specifications, supplier and subcontractor quotes, proposals and other documentation

  • Accurate take-off of quantities from project drawings and specifications

  • Preparation of a detailed estimate from first principals using cost history and past experience. Use estimating software systems in accordance with estimating policy, procedures and good practice

  • Prepare and distribute RFQ’s and solicit quotations and proposals from suppliers and subcontractors

  • Establish and maintain relationships with existing and new suppliers and subcontractors

  • Attend site visits, pre-bid and pre-award meetings as required

  • Advise changes in subcontractor and supplier information

  • Review, analyze and check for completeness of bid documents

  • Assist with tender closing and delivery of tenders

  • Prepare post-bid analysis and tender results

  • Maintaining relationships with owner, architect, consultants, subcontractors, and the public

  • Act as a key contact between Company and Customer

  • Develop and monitor the project schedule and budget

  • Assist with job cost setup and monitor project performance

  • Coordinate and ensure compliance of all applicable Quality Control/Quality Assurance requirements

  • Ensure all scope and contract extras are approved by the customer

  • Handle change orders, including negotiating, processing and assessing cost and schedule impacts, and preparation of claims

  • Identify project risks, problems and issues as early as possible; ensuring mitigating actions are in place to minimize impact, and elevate to senior management as appropriate relative to severity

  • Provide performance status reports regarding cost forecasts, schedule and safety

  • Understand and enforce contractual responsibilities, contract documents and resolving disputes

  • Prepare/verify progress billings to owner and from subcontractors, and monitoring progress

  • Liaise with authorities and regulatory agencies

  • Ensure compliance with quality control plan

 

Requirements:

  • Technical College degree/diploma in Civil Engineering, Technologist or equivalent

  • Minimum 3-5 years related experience

  • Sound experience in obtaining scopes of work and pricing from subcontractors, submitting tenders and closing bids

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and calculate precise quantities and estimates

  • Knowledge of cost control techniques and material pricing

  • Effective written, verbal communication and presentation skills

  • Strong computer skills using MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Suretrack, Heavy Job and Heavy Bid estimating software, or equivalent systems

  • Valid Class G License and clean drivers abstract

  • Deadline driven with strong ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast pace environment

  • Solid team player with positive attitude
